2026 Open Gardens Season—Thank you!
The Society hosted in-person Open Gardens tours on June 28, July 12, July 26 and August 9. A launch event on May 31 with the Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs had to be cancelled due to a lightening storm.
Twenty gardens were open for tours this summer. Thank you to all our hosts.

The schedule for 2027 is June 27, July 11, July 25, and August 15.
Open Gardens tours have been one of the Society’s most popular events, with each garden receiving over 100 guests during the afternoon (noon to 4:00 pm)
Gardens do not need to be perfect. They should be able to engage a visitor for at least 15 minutes
with the plant choices and arrangement, gardening methods (such as containers, type of raised beds,
water collection, irrigation methods, xeriscape, native plantings, composting, mulching, staking, hail protection, and solutions to challenges), hardscape, aesthetic, and purpose. It is okay for your garden to be a work in progress, just ensure that the description reflects what the visitor will experience.
If you are concerned about having enough to share in your garden, consider asking your neighbours to host at the same time and make it a bit of a block party! Seeing several gardens nearby makes the travel time worthwhile.
After submitting a hosting request, an Open Gardens coordinator will contact you. They may request a garden visit to ensure that the garden can safely accommodate visitors and make suggestions to help ensure that you can host a successful event. Open Gardens address are published to the Members Only area of the Society’s website the week before the event and are automatically unpublished after the event ends. The event information, if available, is also published in the Society’s member magazine Calgary Gardening.
