Thank You! The BigYellowBag®depot has closed for the season.
On the final weekend, we collect 42 BigYellowBag® bags. That brought the season total to an unbelievable 409! That’s more than doubled our goal of collecting 200 bags this growing season. Watch for the depot reopen on Earth Day, April 22, 2024. Let’s try for an ambition target of 600 bags next year. If we have those bags coming in on a regular basis, we’ll have a representative from Eagle Lake Professional Landscape Supply stopping by every two weeks to pick them up. Let’s keep them busy!
Watch for a Give and Grow code that you can use when ordering next year, so you can support the Society when purchasing BigYellowBag® products.
Why do we host a BigYellowBag®depot?
Did you know that BigYellowBags® are not recyclable in The City of Calgary blue bin? Don’t send this bulky bag to the landfill, return it to Eagle Lake Profession Landscape Supply (Eagle Lake), the local licensee. The bags can be returned to their location 285177 Frontier Road, Rocky View County or, better, the bag depot at the Calgary Horticultural Society office located at 2725 33 Avenue SW, Calgary.
When open, the bag drop-off depot is located on the east side of the Society building, just across the road from the Currie Reservoir Disc Golf course entrance. You won’t miss it as it’s a BigYellowBag® on a signed holder, next to one of the Society’s raised beds. Please ensure your bags are empty and fold them up before placing them in the collection bag.
In 2022, we collected over 150 bags. By returning your BigYellowBag®, like our partner on this initiative, Eagle Lake, you are supporting the Society’s value of “Work with our environment to minimize our footprint”.
Thank you, gardeners
The Society’s CHS23 Give and Grow code was used 76 times this growing season. Because of your support, the Society will be receiving a $760 donation from Eagle Lake Professional Landscape Supply. Thank you, gardeners!
Note: at this time we can only accept the return of BigYellowBags®.
