Ignite Your Imagination for the Gardening Season!

The Calgary Horticultural Society has been dedicated to helping local gardeners be successful in Calgary’s growing environment since 1908. The Society provides educational opportunities from talks, workshops and courses to events. The one-day Gardeners’ Market is one of our 2026 signature events. Last year, our Gardeners’ Market attracted 1,200 attendees.

This event brings gardeners of all experience levels together to discover what’s happening in the local world of gardening and ignites our garden season. Our exhibitors include garden centres, garden service suppliers, garden decor creators, gardening product providers, and specialty plant groups—it’s an event dedicated to gardening right here in Calgary.

Speakers Stage

30 minute talks start at 10:00 am and continue all day. Speakers are exhibitors at the event, so if you have more questions than can be covered in the 10 minute Q&A, you can visit them at their event space. The last talk wraps up at 3:15 pm, leaving 45 minutes before the event closes. Learn more!

A Chef and a Gardener: Inspired Salsas and Chilled Delights

Noon to 1:00 pm A Chef and a Gardener: Inspired Salsas and Chilled Delights. Chef and gardener share harvest tips while preparing fresh seasonal garden-inspired dishes together.

A Passion for Garlic

2:00 – 3:00 pm A Passion for Garlic. Get garlic growing tips and enjoy a demonstration of versatile, flavorful garlic confit creations.

Class fees are in addition to Gardeners’ Market admission. $15.00 for Society members and $25 for non-members.

Food Service

Food service is available on site at The Market.

The Blue Flame Kitchen Cafe will be serving regular and specialty coffees and teas as well as pastry snacks. They also will have hand-held wraps, sandwiches, and single serving hearty and green salads for lunch. Beverages also include a variety of sodas and juices.

EthniCity Catering (in photo) will be offering warm, vegetarian treats.

The Eye Catcher Photo Contest

Head over to the Photo Contest page to submit your entry. This year’s theme is “The Eye Catcher.” Capture some stunning shots and choose images you’re excited to share. Tell us what makes them meaningful or memorable. The winner will be chosen from the finalists through Popular Choice voting at the event.

April 14, visit the Photo Contest page under the What’s Happening menu to help choose five finalists. Prints of the photos selected will be displayed at the Gardeners’ Market. Attendees will vote for the winner.

Bento Box Garden Container Challenge

Are you prepared to bring your ideas to life and take this challenge head-on? Learn more in the Container Challenge page. With a theme of “Bento Box Garden”, design your container with a concept of harmonious “compartments” . Work on your own or partner with someone to win a greengate Garden Centres gift card and bragging rights.

Submit your entries before noon April 23. Entries will be displayed on the event day and two winners will be decided by popular choice and expert panel.
