Benefits to Members

Gardening resources, members-only events and shopping discounts will easily offset the cost of membership with the Calgary Horticultural Society!

Bring a Friend

Bring a friend at member pricing to any workshop, class, or event. Members can register a non-member companion and pay member pricing (savings of at least 10% from non-member pricing) or bring a non-member guest to free member events, such as Open Gardens.

Resources

Calgary Gardening e-Magazine and Article Index

Receive eight informative magazines per year with how-to articles, plant profiles, and much more. Use the A-Z Index to find articles in past issues and click links to read articles.

Gardeners’ Online Discussion Forum

Connect with other members and share gardening advice and experiences.

Searchable Plant Library

Access descriptions of over 100 perennials, trees, and shrubs that grow well in the Calgary area.

Demonstration and Teaching Garden

Visit our garden to see what grows well in this climate, or join us for hands-on learning. (Note: because the Society has moved to Richmond Green, the garden is in redevelopment.) We’ve recently planted an alpine mound and a native plant garden bed.

Library

We have a great selection of books, curated for our growing environment, for you to borrow or to browse at the Society office.

Learning Opportunities

Our year-round schedule includes hands-on workshops, instructional programs, guest speakers, and informal talks; most are free or discounted for members.

Events

Spring and Fall Plant Shares

Share your excess plants, seeds, and bulbs and exchange for new treasures.

Signature Events

To launch the gardening season, the Society hosts an event packed with guest speakers, expert panels, and demonstrations. Members receive a discount to attend this online learning event. We have also expanded the activities at our member Spring Plant Share to include a marketplace.

To celebrate harvest and garlic, the Society hosts an event with knowledgeable speakers and a marketplace. In addition, the Fall Plant Share includes a member-to-member garlic exchange. The 2022 Fall Fair is free for Society members.

Open Gardens

Members generously open their gardens for other members to see what grows well in Calgary and to get ideas for their own yards.

Shopping Discounts

Don’t go shopping without your membership card! We have more than 50 businesses offering discounts up to 15% to Society members.

Rewarding Volunteer Opportunities

Engage in activities with a community of fellow gardeners and reap the rewards.
