Harvest: Fermented Foods - Sauerkraut & Pickles with The Light Cellar

Date:         Thursday, October 05, 2017 @ 7:00:00 PM to Thursday, October 05, 2017 @ 9:00:00 PM

Sauerkraut Strip

Learn the basics of fermentation and how to safely and efficiently ferment your own vegetables. In this class you will learn about how to lacto-ferment any vegetable you have grown into a pro-biotic rich pickle as well as sauerkraut.

Friendly, probiotic-rich fermented foods are age-old essentials to the human diet. Yet few in our modern culture consume any fermented foods or even close to what would be required to receive their optimal benefits. And even fewer still know the delightful satisfaction of creating their own fermented foods at home.

This class is designed to be an empowering and immersive learning experience paired with expert guidance so you can comfortably and confidently begin working with beneficial microbes in your own home. You will leave with tips and techniques on how to culture the good bacteria, avoid the bad, and maintain the conditions required for a delicious and safe fermentation of vegetables. This is a must for any gardener who would like to know how to ferment your vegetable harvest.

This class is 2 hours long and includes a 30 minutes hands-on portion with a take home component.  You will sample different varieties of sauerkraut and pickles and get hands-on by making your own to take home.
