Seed Starting (Morning Session)

Get a jump on the season by starting your plants from seed. Less expensive than buying transplants, starting your own also gives you a much broader choice of interesting varieties!

You will find out about seed choice, start times, and growing methods, including windowsill and grow-light gardening. Whether you are interested in annuals, perennials, edibles, or even shrubs and trees, this workshop will give you the information you need to go from starting a seed through to planting it in the ground.

You will learn how to start your own seeds to take home for your garden. and through a series of demonstrations, you will learn the proper care and handling of a variety of young seedlings. You will also practice transplanting, to help you get the sturdiest and healthiest seedlings!

Propagation (Afternoon Session)

Learn all about the various types of propagation, including leaf and stem cuttings, root division, layering, and bulbs.  You will also learn about treating cuttings with rooting hormone.

Get hands-on experience with methods of propagation that are easy for you to do at home, and find out about a few that require special equipment and more advanced skills, such as grafting and tissue culture.

You will take home an assortment of potted-up cuttings for you to grow on. Be prepared to handle soil in this workshop, and please bring a set of hand pruners.
