At the September 17, 2020 AGM of the Calgary Horticultural Society, the following following new directors are standing for election for their initial 2-year term ending September 2022.


Nicole Arienzale

Nicole was born and raised in Calgary and brings more than twenty years of human resources, corporate administration, education and communications expertise to the Society. She has a passion for horticulture in general, mostly as a result of exploits in the garden growing many flowers and vegetables. She also loves it for the lifelong learning opportunities it brings and the multigenerational connections it creates across her family.  


Barbara Rypien

Barb is a professional geologist with 22 years of experience in both North America and International regions.  Barb has a background in management, technical excellence and governance, having been a part of the SAIT Advisory Committee for Geoscience as well as serving on the Governance committee at the Calgary WinterClub.  She has a keen interest in gardening, especially helping others with their gardens  and recently completed the Master Gardener program through the Calgary Horticultural Society.  Barb believes that the Calgary Horticultural Society can continue to help provide Calgary gardeners with the knowledge and inspiration to become lifelong successful gardeners.  She is an active volunteer with The Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs and is working towards obtaining the Prairie Horticultural Certificate from Olds College. 


Judy Williams

Judy is President of Solution Group and a Principal with Osborne Interim Management. Through her consulting career, she has successfully managed projects in energy, telecommunications, post-secondary education, and the nonprofit sector by developing and implementing strategic and business plans, change management and communications strategies, as well as stakeholder engagement and advocacy campaigns.  

Judy has a BA from Laval University in Quebec City. She attended the Stanford Executive Program in California, and has a Masters in Communication Technology from the University of Alberta. She recently completed the Professional Business Writer’s Certificate at the University of Calgary.  

Judy has served on the boards of APEGA, the Alberta Institute of Chartered Accountants, and the Headwater Group. She has been involved in the Calgary Horticultural Society since the fall 2019, serving on the Strategic Planning and Priorities Committee.
