At the September 16, 2021 AGM of the Calgary Horticultural Society, the following new directors are standing for election for their initial 2-year term ending September 2022.
I have been a member of the Calgary Horticultural Society since 2010. I would call myself a learning and experimenting gardener and I have lots to learn. I took the woody plant identification course a number of years ago and I continue to rely on the Society to build my gardening and plant knowledge. I took advantage of a number of the learning opportunities made available by the Society through the pandemic months, as I planned a new front garden that replaced most of my lawn. It was a COVID project that influenced many of my neighbours, and contributed to building our little community of support on our block as we shared plants and ideas for our front gardens. This year, I have worked with a small and dedicated group of community volunteers beautifying the side garden at the Women’s Centre. Our community of artists and gardeners have created a peaceful retreat full of colour for women in the community. I have spent my career working in the non-profit sector and will bring my non-profit organizational and governance experience to my work on the Horticultural Society’s Board of Directors.
Krista Lauridsen is a relatively new member to the Society. Krista’s passion for gardening was spurred by her mother-in-law and reinforced with a class Krista took, hosted by Kath, at the University of Calgary. It was here where Krista’s interest in the Society developed!
Krista is a registered Architect and leads ATB Financial’s Real Estate, Design and Project Management teams. Krista has lived, studied and worked in many countries throughout the world and brings a robust and diverse perspective to her work on the Board. Krista currently sits on the Governance and Building Committees.
